Piece by Piece is the story of three friends - couple Jehan and Sarah and their friend Dan - forced to make camp and live off the land when they get lost on a day hike. At the peak of desperation and overwhelmed by an instinct to survive, Sara and Jehan make the decision to kill their friend Dan and eat him piece by piece.
ABOUT THE FILM
Piece by Piece is a collaboration between MONSTRINTHEDARK, a local film production company in the Hudson Valley, and Valley Cre8tive, a digital studio started by Sean Tracy in 2017.
Brittany Shaffer is a well rounded actress in the fields of film, television, commercial, theater and voice-over acting. She graduated with her BFA from The University of Northern Colorado. Some of her most well known credits include Mostly 4 Millennials (Adult Swim), Buga (International Puerto Rican Heritage Film Festival), Evil Lives Here (Discovery ID), K.O.D. (Pilot), The Drowsy Chaperone (Bristol Valley Theatre), Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood (National Tour) and more. Emmanuel ‘E.M Stanley’ Christian is a Brooklyn born actor of Ghanaian descent. Since he left the corporate world to pursue his passion as an actor he has immersed himself entirely in the entertainment industry. Emmanuel recently worked on Feature length film; "Liberation", directed by Sundance award nominee Asantewa Prempeh. He has also been featured on CBS's bull and Netflix’s Luke Cage. Mr. Christian recently completed 2 lead roles on a web series and an award winning shortfilm entitled ‘Homesick’.
Emmanuel's training came at the Ted Bardy studios where he learned the Meisner Technique to acting. He also studied script analysis under Mel Williams and TFANG. Wanting to improve his comedic timing and wit, Emmanuel studied improv at UCB Theatre. To continue to improve his marketability, Christian also studied MMA as well as stage combat with the distinguished Jared Kirby. Culminating his work ethic with his mental fortitude, Emmanuel believes there are no boundaries within this industry and as such continues to learn all skills that will improve his craft.
When he’s not working E.M is an avid reader of fantasy books, enjoys watching sitcoms, marvel movies and experimenting with editing footage as well as pictures. He’s a major basketball and soccer fan and keeps a healthy lifestyle as a certified personal trainer. Emmanuel lives by the motto 'Be the best you' and sees everyday as a chance to improve.
Piece by Piece was made by an 8 person crew in a 12 hour shoot day.
Sean Tracy (@monstrinthedark) served as the director and production designer for the shoot.
Millbrook local Lawton Meyer (@lawton_meyer) served as DP and camera operator.
Steve O’Regan was the Gaffer and Key Grip on the project and was assisted by Grip, Stewart Thomas (@stewsday_nights).

KellyRose Smith (@bleedingrosefx) was the films makeup artist and created the realistic leg wound for the character, Sara.

Sean Tracy became a freelance cinematographer in 1999. He continued his freelance career while working as an elementary school teacher in Queens, NY.
In 2011, he directed Black Hat, his third feature film. Black Hat was made for $4000 and was sold in September of 2011 to Amazon Studios for six figures.
Sean currently runs MONSTRINTHEDARK (monstrinthedark.com), a production company that creates commercials and social impact documentaries. He is also the President and Founder of Valley Cre8tive, a digital studio that strives to empower filmmakers in the Hudson Valley with the resources and team they need to create films
Piece by Piece was shot on the Blackmagic Ursa Mini Pro in the Blackmagic RAW format at 12:1 with Rokinon Cine DS lenses.
The film was shot with natural light except the final scene in which an Aputure 120D, Aputure Amaran 672, and a IK Tungsten Fresnel were used in addition to a controlled fire.
The film was edited and colored using Davinci Resolve 15.1.
Piece by Piece was shot in Pawling, NY. The forest set in the opening scenes was built by Sean Tracy for a 2017 commercial and re-purposed for this project. The set featured in the final scene of the film was also constructed by Sean Tracy, but this set was built alongside his house so that the crew could have access to AC power for lighting.
